STOP 5G does not imply we don’t ever want 5G or digitisation! A halt on 5G is necessary so as to ensure nothing is neglected and to act responsibly. We are not hostile technology blockers, conspiracy theorists and esotericists – we are responsible women and men who defend wise actions.
At 5G New Radio, as the latest generation of mobile radio transmission is called, much of what was previously implemented at the hardwear level has now been solved by software. It is thus possible to introduce innovations at short intervals thanks to software updates. Errors in updates are not uncommon – we all know this from Windows updates – but what if the error leads to much higher radiation exposure and none of the managers notice it? The inhabitants are suffering and moreover, we don’t believe them.
The massive MIMO antennas of 5G transmitters change the exposure situation every 5 – 20 milliseconds – For data transmission, the beams are highly concentrated towards active devices – the control signals, on the other hand, are sent everywhere as 50 Hertz pulses – These “club swinging” antennas lead to an unprecedented dynamic in exposure – but with what biological effects?
Millimetre waves have not yet been attributed to mobile telephony in Europe – but without them, 5G will not be able to achieve the promised performance – it is only a matter of time before their introduction here – and their biological impact has not yet been investigated.
Unlike 4G, 5G mobile phones use CP-OFDM for the uplink as the base station, which, in combination with modulation, leads to greater dynamics of mobile phone radiation – even unexplored.
Before using systems and equipment with a new type of exposure, it is necessary to study their potential level of danger and take appropriate measures to protect lives. An effective quality assurance system must also be determined with all of the appropriate validations and verifications in place.^
The possibility that 5G will deliver a much faster data transmission and the networking of up to 1 million devices per km² leads to an exponential growth in data volume – not only more data must be transmitted, but also more data must be processed and stored in data centres – the energy demand is exploding! Even conservative forecasts assume that by 2030, information and communication technologies will have a global energy demand corresponding to the production of 1000 plants the size of the Gösgen nuclear power plant. With 5G, are there no more climate targets?
Before the deployment of 5G, measures must be defined to ensure that their implementation is in line with climate objectives.
